Can it be? Yes!

What's Happening?

Well, the reunion is now over, and there is still news coming in! The time has come to automate this section of the web site. (Don't send e-mail to me anymore - this is now all automated!)

I converted all the old notes to the new automated news book. Note, that these are now in reverse order, so the latest notes are at the beginning. The messages from before the runion simply have a 2001 date, while those received after will have a real date.

Hope you remain that way. I could go on like this about everyone but must get back to whatever I was doing! Pls email whenever and check out the web site later in September. WOW! It is hard to believe that 30 years went by so quickly. Kind of had a ring of rude awakening when telling others that that weekend was the 30th year class reunion. The memories that flooded in every time I saw someone was so overwhelming. Everyone looked so great. Ron, I think your right about feeling secure in our beings today and how we're all on the same path. Mike Speiles, you always make the party a happening and what about Jeff Gosman, wasn't he awesome, the excitement that exuberated off of him. Hey, I even got mistaken as the Home Coming Queen, shoot, I barely remember HS.......lol. Between the reunion, seeing my 2 best friends, Kathy and Gail, and my first love from HS and my 48th birthday too.........I was on such an emotional high,it took days to come down, then I cried.......lol. Skip it was great talking with you about my brother,(who has passed away), and your sister, Jackie, and the good ole days. Ruth, I really enjoyed our chat over lunch too, somehow I always wanted to express my sorrow to you from many years ago.....thanks for being there! Geez, this could go on and on. You would not believe this, Kathy Batey and I had dinner on Sunday and we sat next to our vice principal from our HS days.....darn his name i can't remember.....but what a way to end up the good ole reunion. Thank you so much Bruce for making this happen. See you all on the 40th. Please do keep in touch. Love and happiness, Connie

Hi everyone,

I agree with you all, it was a great reunion. Thanks to Chris and Bruce for getting it together. I liked your comments, Bruce. It was good for me to see everyone and be an American for a while and like you said, get back in touch. I got back last Sunday, Aug. 29, a week ago and it's been a hectic one. I wanted to write before too much time had passed and memories started fading again. It was good to get back to my husband and son, although I left my 3 daughters up there. Again, it was great to see all of you. God Bless

Hi everyone. WOW! What a good time I/we had at the reunion!!! It was so good to see so many "fun" people all in one place at the same time. It is amazing that it has been 30 years since we graduated. I so enjoyed learning and hearing about what all of you had been up to these past years. I also discovered more about what REALLY went on when we WERE in high school thanks to Skip Vetten, Ron Fields, Mike Spieles, and Mitch Sheppard. Thanks guys for clueing me in. It was also wonderful "crashing" NC's reunion on Saturday night and getting to get reconnected with old friends from across town. That made the circle of friends complete for a lot of us. Also, a big THANKS to Chris and his wife and to you, Bruce, for all that you have done to make this reunion the success it was and for helping all of us to better keep in touch over the years to come. My best wishes for good health and happiness to all of you! Debbie Wiatrak (aka "Jersey")

Real Class

Thanks, Susan and Sandy for getting this matter fixed. I really debated if I should add Sandy's original post - I got it before I got the new automated news system up. I decided to not act as a filter. I will continue to follow that policy as much as possible in the future, too. It is a community web site.

Perhaps we all will gain a little insight from this incident. I still think reunions provide a real touchstone for us all, even if we learn that everyone might not have moved on with their lives. Susan's efforts to set things straight with Sandy and her response show real class.

A Sad Situation Amongst Us...

At Sandy's Spracklen's request, I am posting a copy of the e-mail correspondence I had with her concerning her previously posted note:

August 16, 2001

Sandy - Please read this message.

A KW friend contacted me about the note you had posted on the KW website...

I am very concerned - in that there were only three "Susan B's" in our class - and I was the only one staying at The Parkway Plaza. That was not my room number...but the person that called you was probably just guessing because they don't give out room numbers. There was a person in our class - who was at the reunion and knew I was staying at The Parkway Plaza - that used to sign people's annuals in Jr. High and Highschool with nasty notes and sign "Susan B" to them. Several people came to me and said they knew I didn't do it...and it was traced to this sick person. She was taken to the Principal's office and she cried and said she didn't mean to hurt anyone. This person was also compulsive liar. This recent incident, with your call from a "Susan B," is all too strange of a coincidence. You're right. Thirty years... I too would have thought that this person would have matured/grown up or gotten help by now. I certainly don't want such calls attributed to me. I don't know what was said on the call to you - but it sounds as though it was quite upsetting for you. I'm sorry all of this has happened. I am trying to figure out what I should do. This person needs help.

Although, I didn't know you well in highschool - I always thought you were a nice, good person. I send good wishes to you and your family.

Sincerely,

Susan Blevins

Sandy's response... August 17, 2001

Susan..
Thank you for your email...it put to rest some hard feelings that evidently I harbored since high school being on the receiving end of some pretty nasty calls....I don't know who that person is and I think it is best that I don't. I am in agreement that she evidently needs a strong dose of either
maturity or psychological. I sincerely hope all had a great time at the reunion. I have never gone to any of them...and if this person has gone before maybe it is a good thing I haven't. If you would do me the favor of posting on the kw website my apology I would greatly appreciate it!!! Thank
you for your best wishes and from my family to yours we wish you the same.
God Bless
Sandy

Just wanted to say I had a great time! Wish I could have spent more time visiting.....it was so surreal that just when I got excited to see one person....there would be someone else! Cad and Reen if you see this, PLEASE email me!! And Mitch Sheppard, I gotta say you and Danny Dobbins kept me in stitches all weekend. On the plane home I took a lot of very special memories of first loves, and good friends, and embarrasing moments, and oops I had one too many glasses of wine, and maybe I shouldn't have said that, but no real big regrets in high school, nor 30 years later. We have all gained riches in my observations of this reunion. Financially for some, and spiritually as a group we shined! Our egos have leveled over the years. And for that, we should all be grateful, and thank one another for sharing this space in time. I for one came home richer for the experience, and I thank you all for that. And to all the sour pusses that were too cool to attend, and those who just want to write in to this website to remind us how cool they are that they didn't attend......GREAT BIG FAT JUICY RASPBERRIES IN YOUR FACE TO YOU!!!!!!!! We had more fun without cha!!!!!!! Would love to hear from you! I get lonely in Seattle. Peace, Kathy Batey

Thank you for your part in making the reunion a good time for all that attended. Funny how time changes things. A few updates that I have, I did Lee Salazar's Mom's hair a couple years ago, and I'm sure she told me he was deceased. She still lives in Casper.
Thanks again! I'll read on and reply if I know anything you don't already.

Bruce liked what you had to say about the reunion. I was just upset I didn't get to talk to everyone or say good bye the weekend went by to fast as did last 30 years. I loved seeing everyone it was like being in a room full of brothers and sisters.

To Susan B (whoever you are) who called from the Parkway Plaza from room 1445...didn't return your call...had no intention of doing so...had I wanted to speak to any of the class of 1971 I would have gone...seems for some of us the years have done nothing to help us mature...don't bother replying on website as i won't be checking it again.

Today Tom Carlton called to let me know that tonight KWHS class of 71 is having their 30th year reunion. Couldn't get my pilot out of bed to make it there in time. The next best thing I can do is update my address so this error doesn't reoccur on our 40th. You can find me in Mesa, Az hanging out at 4047 E. Delta Cir. You can zip me at 85206. Don't hoard all the fun! If you want to continue the party, you're welcome to come over to my place, just give me a call at (480) 396-0218. If you're unable to make it,let me know by e-mailing me at bostow@cyberspeedway.net. Until I hear from you just remember to be good, and if you can't be good, at least make it profitable. Wishing I was there.
Take care, and May God Bless

Alas, after nearly seven years in Ukraine, I am moving to Washington, DC, U.S.A.
All good things must come to an end.

If you are ever in Washington, please give me a call: [1] (202) 494-6061.

I will miss Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova, and I will miss the fine people here that
work for the future of these countries, care about this region, and believe in a great
future. Fortunately, my new job will allow me to visit Ukraine a few times each year.

This website is such a great idea! My husband and I have lived in Nashville,
Tennessee for 13 years now - long enough to develop a bit of a southern accent. I
fought it for the first few years, then finally gave in to it! I plan to attend this 30th
reunion. The last two didn't interest me too much for some reason, but I am really
looking forward to this one and seeing all of you there!

PS - It is SOOOOOO strange to be using the name Brown again after 27 years!

Nice website...Don and I are still in Glenrock. As you know he got hurt in 1986
and can't work any more. He has had 11 surgeries now and is not doing very well.
Our youngest son moved back to Glenrock to be closere to us.
I am a Sargent and I shoot professionally. I teach Hunter Education, NRA rifle,
pistol, personal protection, reloading, shotgun, muzzleloading, archery, am a Chief
Range Officer, and home firearm safety. I am on the board of dirrectors for the
Friends of the NRA. I got a trophy and a plaque for being one of the top 10
instructors for the year 2000. I teach shooting for 4-H also.
I teach at East Junior High after school. I am in charge of the afterschool homework
program (latch key) and do computers and many other projects.
I am going to try to come. We are teaching a Hunter Education class for the Game
and Fish that week. Don and I will be there if there is any way we can.

The newsletter about the 30th reunion arrived here on July 5, and I picked it up
from the post office on July 7. Santa Cruz, unfortunately, doesnīt have house to
house delivery yet. It still takes a while to get letters to us here. I immediately came
home and got out the yearbooks and started browsing. What memories. I just
finished going through your web site. What a good job and ahhh more memories,
reading everyones e-mails. I, for one, would love to see the Forget-Me-Dots
perform again.

I would love to attend and see everyone again, especially since I havenīt been able
to be at any of the others. But being in Bolivia might pose a problem. I wiil let you
know if I can, though.

Just a quick update, in case I donīt get there. On Sepember 1, 2001, I will have
been in Santa Cruz, Bolivia for 25 years. Just about as hard to believe as that we
are celebrating our 30th anniversary of graduating from high school. Iīve been
married to a Bolivian cattle rancher (Franklin Mendez) for 28 years. We met in
Odessa, Texas at college and then married, moved to Lubbock, Texas where we
finished at Texas Tech in 1976. In September 1976 we moved here to Bolivia with
twin girls, who were 25 this past June. We had 2 more children here, a girl (21) and
a boy (15). The three girls are now in Denton, Texas going to college and sharing an
apartment. The twins will finish soon. Our son will be in 10th grade this year.

Our ranch is about an hour 1/2 out of town. Itīs a beautiful place with rolling hills
and a view of the mountains in the distance. Iīve worked with the American
Embassy here for the last 15 1/2 years as an Administrative Assistant. Itīs been an
interesting job.

I would love to hear from all of you. Even if we donīt get to see each other, it would
be great to get back in touch by e-mail

Hi, Bruce & all

First, thanks for a wonderful website -- so much work there! Second, thanks for
letting me on. I didn't get to graduate with you all as my family moved to Pullman,
Wash. the summer between 10th & 11th grades so I graduated as a Greyhound up
there. But 2 years with them didn't replace 5 years of school with you all in Casper.
(Eventually, my folks moved back to Casper & my mom still lives in the same little
brick house on Country Club Rd.) Over the years, I have to say, I've even had
dreams of old classmates. I didn't know about the 10th reunion and can't come this
time. So I'll write a little update & post it here.
My parents moved to Pullman in 1969 where my dad worked at KWSU and
helped wire a new TV-radio building/station. I attended WSU (living cheaply at
home) and graduated in '75 in General Studies-Linguistics (a cross-dept program in
English & anthro). I met my husband, Peter, (native of Camas, Wash.) in an anthro
linguistics class there & we were wed atop a steptoe butte on June 21, 1975. We
stayed in Pullman forever while he finished his PhD in Anthro -- ending with a focus
on paleo-environments of the Great Basin using pollen and packrat midden analysis.
While we were there, I also did a Masters in English but again with a linguistics/
ESL emphasis (for teaching English as a 2nd Lang.) Our son, Hans, just beat the
PhD in 1985. Peter took his first real job here in Reno, NV at the Desert Research
Institute in 1987. Our daughter, Liesl, was born here in '89 (can you tell his family is
German on both sides?). I was an at-home mom with a little babysitting on the side
for some years and occasional stints at UNR teaching ESL. About 4 years ago
(kids getting big), I started working in the school district -- mostly as an aide in
SpEd. This year I've gained a promotion & dept. shift so I start July 9 as an ESL
assistant -- thus, I'm in school (year-round school) on a new job & can't come for
the reunion. I also have been teaching a night ESL class for the comm. college here
for adults. Life is full & busy right now. My husband was laid off 3 years ago from
the DRI when funds dried up for the environmental impact research for Yucca Mt.
& other smaller projects. He taught 2 semesters last year in Jordan on a Fulbright
(we went for a 3-week visit) but otherwise is now a free lance under-employed
research scientist. Anybody need a packrat midden analyzed?? My hobbies --
besides school work, house work & yard work -- include folk dancing, Daughters
of Norway, family history research, and Hardanger embroidery.

Warm wishes to all of you. Send e-mail greetings!

My first thought on getting the invitation to the 30th reunion was "Nah... there ain't

thought was "Wahhhh..."

Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to make it. I'm sure all who are there will
have a good time.

Nice job on the web page. It's interesting to see where everyone is at now and to
read the comments on what they've been doing. Me, I've been living in San Diego

Good work. It is great reading the updates and finding out how people are doing
and where they are. I have been back to Casper twice since the beginning of Feb.,
as my mother has not been well and she needed to be moved into and assisted living
residence. I am looking forward to getting back out for the reunion in August. It
would be and should be fun. I just need Mike Spieles to know that he shouldn't
hold his breath waiting or worry about a reunion performance of the
"FourGetMeDots". I really did laugh when I read that!!! Anyway, I would love to

Hi Bruce--I heard about your website through Anne Kapp-Hinton (who heard
about it through Dan Dobbins and Mike Spieles). Thank you very much for
maintaining this site and making it that much easier for us all to communicate.
My information is pretty much correct, but I do not use (Burch) with my name since
that is my previous husband's name. I just go by Mindy Manville.
I am coming home in early August to pack up my Mom and move her out to Davis
with me, so I have planned to come home for the reunion. I will message Chris
Perry, as I think he told me he would be managing the event.
Again, thanks so much for keeping up this site and I hope to see you in August.

I have submitted my update form. My husband, daughter
and I just moved to Hawaii a couple months ago and we
are still in temporary housing ( vacation rentals on the Noth
shore thiangs could be worse but it would be nice to be
permanent). My husband works at Pearl Harbor. He is an
analyist there. Two years ago I changed careers after 20
years as a speech pathologist at WY school for the deaf,
DODDS schools in Gaeta Italy, and Stuttgart Germany,
the Hearing and Speech agency in Baltimore MD, Anne
Arundel co. schools, and Rehabilitation department
Severna Park Center and other Rehabilitation centers in
MD and DC.
I am now a full time mom for my two year old daughter
Evangeline. I love every moment of it. She teaches me
more everyday. Not very many people are so lucky to
have two such rewarding careers in their lifetime. I am
actually trying to decide what I want to do for the next 20
years. My art and writing are the first to come to mind.
KWHS seems so far away from my life now but I suppose
what I learned there it is the base for everything now.
This must be a lot of work, but also fun keeping in touch
with former class mate and rediscovering old friends.

I am now in Minsk, Belarus visiting our office here for a week. Last week I was in Kishinau, Moldova. The week before was Berlin, and Tbilisi, Georgia the week before that. So, as you can see, I travel quite a lot.
I've never lived in Russia. Only Ukraine (for the past six years). I've visited Russia on several occasions, though, beginning in 1989.
All is well. My wife, Luella, loves traveling. We'll be moving to Washington later this year, and she is not too eager to do that.
I have three granddaughters now, ages 3, 2, and 1.

Best regards.

Hi Bruce!
I haven't heard from you in a long long time! You missed the two previous reunions I went to. Saw Brian Propp over the holidays. He gets two paid trips back to the US per year. I think you know he lives in Kiev, Russia.

I went through the address list to see where they are all now. I am not too surprised at how far we have spread but I am amazed at how many are still in Casper or close by. I would not give up all that I have seen of the world to still have solid roots in Casper.
Nice Web Page.

Hello all,
I'm living in Arlington, TX now, and am still in the Navy. I'm hoping to retire here in two more years :)
Hope to hear from some of you!
